Christina’s experience

For those of you who know me, you’re probably are aware that I am a terrible cook! I have an incredibly busy lifestyle, so I don’t get the chance to spend time indulging in grocery shopping, and preparing a meal and cooking it while sitting at my dinner table! In my household, it’s known that when Christina is in the kitchen the fire alarm is bound to go off, and it’s usually in the late hours of the night when I attempt to prepare a meal for next day! As a result, everyone has the fire brigade and the ambulance on speed dial. So when I tried the Mindful Chef service, I was incredibly grateful to have Sandra by my side to make sure we have no fatalities in the kitchen.

As a first time user, Mindful Chef was incredibly easy to navigate, from the pretty packaging, the perfectly proportioned ingredients, to the idiot proof instructions card.

Let’s start with the delivery, the meal itself was delivered to our doorstep, in a cute package (and I am a sucker for packaging). The ingredients were picked out, rationed and safely stored in cooled bags (at least for the meat and the fish) which allowed them to remain chilled for up to 48 hours outside of the refrigerator. All you need is to provide a safe place for the box to be delivered to and you can pick it up whenever you return home. That is actually incredibly convenient, as I am usually running around and usually don’t usually stay put in one place for more than an hour!

Everything was rationed according to the meal requirements, we even had a small packet of chilies enough to add a nice spicy warmth to the meal. This is a really big issue that is not addressed so much concerning the food waste. Sadly, food does not keep in my fridge for that long, which means that if I buy a batch of vegetables, I always end up throwing something away at the end of the week as it doesn’t last long enough. In this case, you don’t have this problem, everything delivered to you will end up on a plate ready to be devoured!

I must admit that sadly, I only recently learnt that chicken turns white when it’s cooked. So when I read the recipe card, I was delighted to see incredibly clear steps with perfect timing instructions for cooking the chicken in the oven. Sandra and I had a great time preparing everything and catching up while cooking this colourful dish.

As a service you get to choose 5 meals out of 8 healthy options which change every week. These meals change frequently, so you won’t get bored of the same options. Each meal is gluten free, and does not contain any refined carbs. This is a great way for you to avoid any hunger pangs, last minute unhealthy grocery shopping, as the meals are pre-chosen and healthy too.

When ordering your meal, the website is incredible easy to navigate, the meals have a starting price of £6 pounds, and you get to choose between fish, beef, chicken lamb and pork, or you can choose plant-based meals.

All in all, this whole experience was an eye opener, it has finally proved to me that I am not such a terrible cook, and that Mindful Chef made it possible for me to enjoy a lovely home cooked meal. I am definitely looking forward to trying the menu next week.
